one more note for today - apparently some people have been hitting this page by doing a search over Feedster. since blogger gave out invites to gmail to a bunch of users, demand has really boomed. each of us new users gets to invite two friends to GMail, and there are lots of people hawking these on ebay to make a few bucks.
sure, it'd be great to be butterfly@gmail.com or pink@gmail.com (which is the only reason i'd want to be one of the first to sign up), but that's just guaranteeing you spam when they use the dictionary tactic. this means that if your username's a word in the dictionary, you've got a good chance of getting hit. and when they figure out your account is active, and better yet, you read/opened the spam, they'll start bombing you with lots more. to which i say, yes, let those fools bid high on ebay for gmail accounts. with karma to balance everything out, winner@gmail.com will be mail-bombed, while joeschmo@gmail.com who waited patiently to sign up for gmail when it opens to the public will enjoy not reading about viagra and empty promises. or so i'd like to think :)
