It has been one helluva a crazy week. And hard to believe it's already Friday. I've been so busy with the finding a job stuff that I really haven't done much else, and now that it's just past 6 pm, everywhere is already closed. Not to mention that lots of places closed for Reagan memorial day (he was buried today), which means I might have been out of luck even if I had called earlier. Ah well, I guess I'll just have my windshield fixed next week. On the bright side, Patrick's coming home soon (yay!) and I just bought my tickets to Vegas for my cousin Joanne's wedding. Yes yes, I know, I have too many cousins and I always just say 'my cousin this' and 'my cousin that' and you have to guess which one I'm talking about a lot (sorry!) Esp. since I'm sitting in my cousin's (Steve) house right now enjoying the view. Oh, and I invited my cousin (Jack) to come to my cousin's (Steve) house so I can cook up some delicious ribs for tonight. Although half of the time when I'm talking about Steve's family, I'll say Taylor (his wife). Taiwanese people tend to have large families, esp my parents' generation...11 kids on my mom's side, 6 or 7 on my dad's I think.
Yesterday I thought I'd be all fit and healthy and go on another one of those long runs. After discovering the back route to the dish (up from Alpine Road), I've always loved running there from my house in Portola Valley. It's about a mile or so to get there, then another mile up the hill to the satellite dish...so about 3-4 miles total. Usually every time I go there are at least three or four people/groups walking up and down the path, but this time I noticed that, oddly enough, there wasn't a single soul to be found. I went allll the way up and back and didn't see anyone at all except a mom and her kids at the dish part who were just hanging out. The back part of the dish usually takes me a good 20-30 min, depending on how badly I am huffing and puffing. Even the horses seemed to look at me a little funny, although there were millions of little ground squirrels happily milling about.
Well, today I was looking at some of the news online, and now I've figured out why there was absolutely no one there. There was a mountain lion who was shot in Palo Alto in the middle of May, and people have also seen a mountain lion milling around the dish area, along the path of my favorite run (argh!) A couple of the cows or horses got scratched pretty badly, and I guess that's enough to keep people away for a while. The funny part is that they suggest that you should go with at least one other person and not wear headphones while you're there. Whoops. I was blithely running by myself, singing along with the music blaring from my mp3 player the whole time. My bad.
