Sigh.  I've come to realize that I am absolutely horrible about keeping up with family stuff.   Beyond adding weddings to my calendar, I have no idea when anyone's birthday is or anniversaries beyond my immediate family.  Which is a bit unacceptable considering how large both sides of my family are.

Today I was having lunch with Kristin, and we were talking about our grandparents.  I said that I've just got one left on each side - grandma on my mom's side and granddad on my dad's.  Later on in the afternoon I happened to be talking to my mom on the phone and found out that my grandma had actually died a couple years ago.  Somehow I managed to conveniently forget that.  The only time that I really remember visiting with her was about a year before she died, and worse, the uncle she had been living with just passed away earlier this year.  He was really generous with his family and treated me and my mom so well when we were there.  I feel really bad for not being able to spend time with my uncle and my grandma before they weren't here anymore, and I'm sure it was even harder for my mom especially considering she couldn't even make it to Taiwan for his funeral a few months ago.

Since we're planning a trip to Taiwan over Christmas, maybe this is the time to really appreciate the family we still have and spend some time with them.  There are still many relatives I have yet to meet.
